General Summary:

The Extended Day Caregiver provides age-appropriate activities and child care services to children enrolled in the Extended Day Care Program. This position reports directly to the Extended Day Care Program Manager.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides child care support services.
  2. Plans and implements age-appropriate activities for students ages 3-12 years old.
  3. Carries out educational and recreational activities as directed.
  4. Performs attendance and other record keeping as directed.
  5. Addresses behavior management for students enrolled in Extended Day Program.
  6. Maintains discipline and brings behavior and/or discipline concerns to the Extended Day Care Program Manager.
  7. Maintains confidentiality with regard to student and family records and information.
  8. Cleans up the facility and playground during operational hours as needed.
  9. Actively supervises outdoor recess/activities to ensure student safety.
  10. Administers First Aid and completes necessary district and LARA incident report forms.
  11. Maintains positive public relations with children, parents, staff, administration and community members.
  12. Follows and adheres to established safety standards.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. High school graduate (18+ years of age) with prior experience working/interacting with children.
  2. Some Early Childhood or Child Development college coursework preferred.
  3. Ability to provide safe and stimulating environment for large groups of children.
  4. Willing to work out-of-doors in all types of weather.
  5. Bending, twisting and running are necessary in performance of daily tasks.
  6. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. while walking short distances.
  7. Ability to positively interact and communicate children, parents, colleagues, and administrative staff.
  8. Able to comprehend, process, and apply information, instructions and directives.
  9. Ability to speak, comprehend, write and read the English language.
  10. Possess current adult, infant/child CPR and First Aid certification, or willing to attain.
  11. A Tuberculosis Test Report showing evidence that staff member is free from communicable tuberculosis and is verified within 1 year before employment.
  12. Must complete 16.0 clock hours of professional development training per calendar year (January 1 through December 31). First aid and CPR training can count for up to 2.0 of the PD hours. Opportunities to attain credits free of charge provided by District.
