Early Childhood Licensing Requirements (LARA): Meets state licensing requirements for Caregiver

 

General Summary:

The Extended Day Care Program Manager provides childcare services and supervision for the educational and recreational activities offered through the Extended Day Care Program.  This position reports to the Program Manager (who meets state licensing requirements for Program Director), the District Child Care Coordinator and the building principal. The Extended Day Care Program Manager is responsible for the duties described below:

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides childcare services in before school and/or after school setting.
  2. Assists District Child Care Coordinator and Program Manager (program director) in maintaining State of Michigan LARA licensing regulations.
  3. Plans and implements age-appropriate activities for students ages 3-12 years old under direction of the Program Manager.
  4. Supervises extended day assistants (caregivers) and provides feedback to the Program Manager for staff evaluations.
  5. Develops positive relationships with children, parents, staff, administration, and community members through effective communication and promotional materials.
  6. Maintains confidentiality with regard to student and family records and information.
  7. Supervises the cleanup of the facility and playground during operational hours.
  8. Administers First Aid when needed and completes necessary district and DHS incident report forms.
  9. Actively supervises outdoor play activities to ensure student safety.
  10. Plans, implements and keeps record of fire and wind drills as required by licensing.
  11. Ensures staff files are compliant and up to date with State of Michigan LARA licensing requirements.
  12. Participates in staff development activities as offered and/or required.
  13. Monitors professional development activities of extended day care assistants (caregivers).
  14. Maintains staff files for self and classroom extended day assistants (including noon-duty personnel as needed).
  15. Attends meetings as requested.
  16. Responsible for collecting weekly payments and past due balances.
  17. Monitors and prepares budgets, attendance rosters, utilization reports, etc.
  18. Prepares and completes State of Michigan Child Development and Care subsidy billing when necessary.
  19. Orders supplies as necessary.
  20. Implements and enforces established safety standards.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Must have current First Aid and infant, child, and adult CPR training.
  3. Must complete 16.0 clock hours of professional development training per calendar year (January 1 through December 31). Related school/coursework can be counted. First aid and CPR training can count for up to 2.0 of the PD hours.
  4. Ability to bend, twist, run, and lift up to 40 pounds while walking short distances.
  5. Demonstrated experience in early childhood classrooms or programs and/or previous childcare experience.
  6. Ability to communicate and work effectively with children, parents, colleagues, coworkers, and community members.
  7. Ability to maintain positive behavior management strategies for large groups of children.
  8. Ability to perform basic accounting procedures (balancing accounts, maintaining budgets, etc.).
  9. Ability to work outside in all types of weather.
  10. A Tuberculosis Test Report showing evidence that staff member is free from communicable tuberculosis and is verified within 1 year before employment.
