General Summary:

The Special Education Aide Substitute provides assistance to Special Education students in the classroom.  He/she reports to the principal or teacher designated by the principal.  $18.27 per hour.  Selected applicant may need to apply through ESS Midwest Inc. (formerly PCMI Services).  Hours and specific dates are to be determined.  

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists special education student(s) with academics in regular education classroom.

Assists students in categorical classrooms.

Assists special education students in physical education, music, art, at lunch and recess as needed.

Takes part in planning meetings and IEPC’s as requested.

Assists with small group non-direct instruction.

Assists with large group non-direct instruction.

Assists with physical challenges (wheel-chairs, scribe, daily life skills, communication devices).

Works in areas of self-help (toileting, diapering, dressing, feeding, dispensing medications per district policy)

Monitors behavior of students on behavior plans and others as needed under the direction of the special education teacher.

Serves as a witness for medication administration if requested.

Attends training or in-services.

Accompanies special education students on field trips.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma.  Previous college credit, WorkKeys certification or college degree preferred. 
  2. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
  3. Previous experience working with children.
  4. Ability to care for, supervise, and nurture children.
  5. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  6. Ability to follow directions.
  7. Ability to work independently.
  8. Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.
  9. Excellent organizational skills.
  10. Ability to resolve conflict.
  11. Dependable, reliable, and protective of sensitive/confidential information. 
  12. Willingness to attend training.
  13. Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
