After School Innovative Project Based Learning Teacher for 

STEM & Language Arts Enrichment 

Classification: Open to Courtade TCEA Teachers

Status: 8 week program, 3 hours with students per week, 16 total prep hours for a total of up to 40 hours - 4 positions available 

Directly Reports: Building Principal

 

General Summary:

The After School Project Based Learning (PBL) Teacher will work with the principal to establish two different after school enrichment opportunities for students in grades 2-5 to support Reading and Math growth.  Two, eight week after school learning programs will run during the school year.  One will be STEM themed and the other will have a language arts theme.  Each PLB focus group will culminate with students presenting the projects they have created to a wider audience during two different community events held at school.  Two teachers will be hired for each eight week session.  Ample planning time and budget for materials will be provided. These programs will support ELA and Math applied learning opportunities to boost student achievement.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

     1. Visioning and Planning

 

  • Work with principal and one other colleague to establish a vision for the enrichment program
  • Work with principal and one other colleague to adequately prepare and plan for 16 sessions
  1. Communications:
  • Advertise enrichment program to teachers
  • Encourage teachers to directly invite students who would benefit from the enrichment program
  • Advertise enrichment program to parents
  • Communicate effectively to parents during the program
  • Be an enthusiastic supporter of student projects during community events
  • Recruit parent volunteers as needed
  • Communicate to parents with any student-related concerns in a timely manner
  • Answer all emails or phone calls regarding the program within 24 hours
  1. Student and Parent Supervision
  • Adequately manage up to 40 students during enrichment programming
  • Take attendance
  • Ensure students are picked up at the conclusion of each evening’s programming
  • If parent volunteers are recruited, ensure they have passed adequate background check
  • If parent volunteers are recruited, supervise parent volunteers effectively
  1. Budget Management
  • Work with principal to purchase materials needed for enrichment programs, within the allotted budget

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. Open to TCEA teachers at Courtade Elementary

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis. 
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property, including bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students. 
  4. The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  5. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  6. Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions. 
  7. Ability to work effectively and efficiently.

Environmental Conditions:

Incumbents work in indoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students, school equipment, and office equipment. 

 

Work Schedules:

  • 40 total hours 
  • 24 hours with students during 16, 90 minute sessions over an 8-9 week period
  • 16 hours total prep time to be used before, during, and after the program
  • STEM Program begins the week of 11/18/24 and ends on 1/23/25 - hours to prep can be done prior to program and during program
  • ELA Program start date 2/3/25 and end date 4/7/25 - hours to prep can be done prior to program and during program
