Early Childhood Department. School year position - 180 work days + 9 paid holidays

 

 

General Summary:

The Toddler Room Assistant (caregiver) provides age-appropriate activities and services to toddlers in the Toddler Room Program.  This position reports directly to the Toddler Room Program Manager.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Room Program Manager:

  1. Provides childcare support services in an infant toddler daycare setting.
  2. Carries out educational and recreational activities.
  3. Performs attendance and other record keeping.
  4. Cleans up the facility and playground during operational hours as necessary.
  5. Oversees outdoor activities.
  6. Administers First Aid and completes necessary District and LARA incident report forms.
  7. Maintains positive public relations with parents, staff, administration and community members.
  8. Maintains confidentiality with regard to child and family records and information.
  9. Follows and adheres to established safety standards.
  10. Participates in staff development activities as offered and/or required.
  11. Provides diapering and toileting assistance.
  12. Feeds infants and provides assistance to toddlers with meals and snacks provided by parents.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. High school graduate (18+ years of age) with prior experience working/interacting with children.
  2. Some Early Childhood or Child Development college coursework highly preferred.
  3. Prior experience working/interacting with infants and toddlers.
  4. Ability to bend, twist, run and sit on the floor while performing daily tasks.
  5. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. while walking short distances.
  6. Ability to positively interact and communicate with children, parents, colleagues, and administrative staff.
  7. Able to comprehend, process, and apply information, instructions and directives.
  8. Ability to speak, comprehend, write and read the English language.
  9. Possess current adult, infant/child CPR and first aid certification, or willing to attain.
  10. A Tuberculosis Test Report showing evidence that staff member is free from communicable tuberculosis and is verified within 1 year before employment.
  11. Must complete 16.0 clock hours of PD (professional development) training per calendar year (January 1 through December 31). First aid and CPR training can count for up to 2.0 of the PD hours.
  12. MIRegistry Course 1 and Course 2 licensed program mandatory training must be completed within ninety (90) days of hire.
