General Summary:

 

The Kitchen Leader will perform food service duties that include cooking, sanitation, record keeping, and the supervision and instruction of food service personnel in the kitchen. The Kitchen Leader reports to the Food Service Director and designees and the building principal.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises all permanent and temporary food service employees assigned to the building.
  2. Maintains familiarity with all laws and regulations pertaining to meals prepared and served in the kitchen and instructs workers on maintaining those regulations.
  3. Orders food and supplies for efficient food production of all menus.
  4. Maintain all food records required by law, regulations, and the food service office.
  5. Maintains cash controls and corresponding records and performs various audit checks as needed.
  6. Prepares and cooks food. Instructs and assigns kitchen personnel on food preparation and cooking.
  7. Properly cares for the storage of food and supplies. Instructs kitchen personnel on proper care and storage of food.
  8. Maintains the kitchen and equipment and supervises others in sanitation controls to meet and exceed all local, state, and national sanitation requirements.
  9. Performs catering functions as assigned.
  10. Gives regular input to Food Service Director on kitchen needs and other food service information that would be helpful in improving food service operations in the building and/or the district.
  11. Reports and maintains employee payroll information.
  12. Monitors and schedules employee time for most efficient use within your building.
  13. Maintains on-site inventories to ensure maximum efficiency in use, ordering, and minimizing waste of inventory.
  14. Assigns kitchen personnel to daily/weekly/monthly duties within the building and monitors the performance of those duties.
  15. Keeps the Food Service Director informed on all employees’ performances.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Previous kitchen experience with at least two years cooking experience and previous supervisor experience preferred.
  3. Pleasant, cheerful, and professional attitude towards all customers and staff.
  4. Ability to maintain proper sanitation practices.
  5. Ability to effectively lead and coordinate the work activities of other staff, maintaining a professional working relationship with all TCAPS staff and maintaining an efficient kitchen.
  6. Possess the physical capabilities necessary to adequately perform the duties of the position.
  7. Current ServSafe certification required.
  8. Willingness to work on continuous improvement as an employee and for the kitchen and TCAPS Food Service Department.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis to the assigned worksite. 
  2. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  3. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity.
  4. The ability to move about the facility or building, including bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, crouching, or cutting/chopping to complete work-related tasks. 
  5. Must possess skills to safely operate a variety of standard kitchen and cooking equipment and tools.
  6. Basic technology skills required to utilize computer and/or other office equipment (printer/copy machine, etc.) consistent with work-related tasks. 
  7. The ability to listen and effectively communicate information and ideas to a diverse population.
  8. The ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s).
  9. The ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions. 
  10. The ability to work independently and in a team environment.  
  11. The ability to maintain effective time management. 
  12. The ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress or conflict situations. 
  13. Occasionally moves boxes, equipment, and other supplies weighing up to 50 lbs across the building for various needs. 
  14. The ability to drive personal vehicle to various locations throughout the district.

Environmental Conditions:

 

Incumbents work in an indoor environment with moderate to loud noise levels. Work may be completed in controlled temperature conditions; however, duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures. Duties may include exposure to chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards. 

 

Work Schedules:

 

Position may include extra hours and/or overtime, upon request.

The individual selected for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
